Abracon Announces 10ppb Stability OCXOs for Precision Holdover Applications

Austin, Texas – Abracon, LLC (Abracon), The Heartbeat of the IoT®, a leading global manufacturer of frequency control, timing, synchronization, RF, connectivity and power solutions, announces the availability of two new SMD oven-controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO) series, the AOC2012 and AOC1409.

“With 5G around the corner, compact precision-timing solutions that support full industrial operating temperature range, along with ultra-low phase noise performance have become essential,” said Abracon VP of Engineering Syed Raza. “Low phase noise is key in maintaining low bit error rate and excellent sensitivity, which are essential in next-generation radio architectures.”

The AOC2012 and AOC1409 solutions both employ a precision SC-cut high “Q” quartz crystal resonator design, coupled with precision temperature monitoring and control circuitry.  This combination enables Abracon to meet Stratum 3 and 3E requirements with this family of OCXOs. 

Precision stability over temperature combined with an ultra-low ±1ppb daily aging enables a ±15ppb, 24-hour holdover accuracy, depending on system conditions. Holdover extends a system’s useful operating period in the event it loses its reference clock, which is an important consideration when designing RF, networking, telecommunications, GPS and reference-timing applications.  Additionally, tight short-term stability improves acquisition time in low-bandwidth phase-locked loops and overall accuracy in GPS applications.

Both solutions are optimized for +3.3V operation with LVCMOS output logic levels, offering fixed-clock or voltage-controlled option.  The voltage-controlled option offers ±700ppb minimum pull, ensuring that the device can be reset to the exact carrier frequency over the 20-year product life.

The AOC2012 series is offered in a 20.32 x 12.70 x 11.00mm SMD package and is optimized for -20°C to +70°C operating temperature range. AOC2012 series is available at standard carrier frequencies of 10MHz, 12.8MHz, 19.44MHz and 25MHz.

The AOC1409 series is offered in a 14.90 x 9.70 x 7.00mm SMD package and is optimized to operate over the industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.  Ideally suited for systems requiring a wider operating temperature range, such as telecommunications & RF systems and radars, the AOC1409 OCXO is offered at an industry-standard carrier frequency of 20.00MHz.

Both the AOC2012 and AOC1409 series are now available through Abracon’s global distribution network.
