GREENSBORO, NC – July 19, 2022 – Qorvo®, a leading provider of innovative RF solutions that connect the world, today announced the availability of the ACT88420, a programmable, highly configurable, constant-on-time (COT) power management IC (PMIC) with six voltage rails. The highly compact ACT88420 is ideal for space-constrained designs such as Internet of Things (IoT) applications, point of sale terminals and networked cameras.

With an input voltage range of 2.7 to 5.5 volts, the ACT88420 offers two 4 amp and two 2 amp buck regulators, and two 400 milliamp (mA) LDOs. Buck 1 and the LDOs can be configured as load switches and Buck 4 can be used as a 400-milliamp LDO. It includes I2C monitoring and control, programmable power sequencing, and eight configurable 3-state GPIOs for increased functionality with fewer pins, providing engineers with the ability to support multiple SKU operations.

David Briggs, senior director of Qorvo’s Programmable Power Management business, said, "The six power rails are highly configurable and the buck converters and LDOs can be used as load switches, giving designers even greater system flexibility. Combined with the multi-time programmability of the 3-State GPIOs, the ACT88420 gives designers the ability to configure up to three levels of operations per block.”

This state-of-the-art PMIC is highly efficient under both heavy and very light load applications and can be easily reconfigured via I2C for multiple uses without the need for PCB changes. The ACT88420 includes a programming dongle to enable reconfigurability, reducing time to market.

The ACT88420 PMIC is available in a 2.69 x 2.69 mm 36 ball WLCSP package and requires minimal external components. It is available in samples and volume production. This videodemonstrates the ACT88420’s building blocks, ActiveCiPS programming tool, configurability and target applications.
