【Development Background】
Recently, the demand for internet using communication satellites is increasing. In order to meet this trend, Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation (AKM) released an RF transmitter the AK1599V for VSAT. It integrates quadrature modulator, frequency synthesizer and VCO. By optimizing output frequency range to higher frequency of L-band, the AK1599V simplifies the circuit construction, realizing saving PCB area and the cost. Since VSAT requires very high signal quality, the integrated frequency synthesizer and VCO achieve low phase noise that is 0.18 degree rms within the frequency range from 2.5kHz to 4MHz. The AK1599V is based on the circuit technologies of AKM’s high performance PLLs (AK154X product family) and mixers (AK1221AK1223).

Achieving low power consumption of 1.3W that simplifies thermal design of the system.

Low phase noise of 0.18 degree rms (offset frequency from 2.5kHz to 4MHz) improves signal quality.

Integrated quadrature modulator, frequency synthesizer and VCO allow to minimize PCB size and lower the cost of the VSAT systems
