Toshiba Launches Industry’s First 15W Wireless Power Receiver IC Compliant with Qi v1.2
2015-11-12 | ReturnNovember 12, 2015
TOKYO - Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) today announced the launch of "TC7766WBG", the industry’s first[1] wireless power receiver IC with the capability to receive 15W and compliant with Qi[2] v1.2 defined by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). Samples will be available by the end of this year and the mass production will begin spring 2016.
TC7766WBG realizes wireless charging times that match or surpass wired charging times, as it triples the received power capability of Toshiba’s current product[3] by increasing the rectified voltage without any change in package size. It is suitable for use in wide range of applications including mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, and industrial devices.
The new IC includes all required functions, including rectifier circuits and controllers needed to construct a standalone wireless power transfer RX system. Toshiba’s original cutting-edge CD-0.13 process realizes a small package and high efficiency, making system integration easy and securing a receiver system with a small footprint.
A wireless receiver system using the new IC is compatible with a 5W transmitter system using Toshiba&lqquot&s 5W transmitter IC "TB6865AFG" [4] which is already in mass production.
In combination with a 15W wireless transmitter system compliant with the Qi v1.2 standard [5] that is under development, the receiver system can receive up to 15W.
Main features
- WPC Qi v1.2 compliant
- Maximum output power : 15W
- Maximum output current : 1.7A
- Output voltage settings : 5V - 14V
- Various protection functions
- I2C interface[6] compatible:
A receiver side host controller can exchange information with a compatible transmitter and access TC7766WBG’s operation status registers via an I2C interface. This can, for example, allow users to be notified of the wireless charging status in the display of a mobile device.
Application
- Mobile devices (Smartphones, feature phones, tablets), industrial devices etc.
