Molex Introduces Optical Industrial Assemblies and Adapters for Harsh-Duty Applications at MILCOM 2015
2015-10-27 | ReturnNew solutions ideal for demanding A&D applications
LISLE, IL – October 27, 2015 – Molex, LLC will introduce its Optical Industrial Assemblies and Adapters (Receptacles)— the first of their kind to offer connections with a ruggedized metal housing for demanding applications—in booth 433 at the Military Communications Conference (MILCOM), October 26-28, Tampa Convention Center in Florida. The assemblies are rated for NEMA 6P and IP67 dust and moisture protection and allow mating directly to any manufacturer’s small form-factor pluggable (SFP) active device by way of a 3-axis internal LC connector float. They utilize an industry-standard (ODVA compliant) plug and receptacle connector to ensure performance and compatibility with other compliant connector systems. In addition to the ruggedized metal housings for outdoor applications, plastic housings are available for indoor or weight-sensitive applications.
“Our new Optical Industrial Assemblies and Adapters (Receptacles) with metal housings are ideal for harsh-environment aerospace and defense (A&D) applications,” said Mark Matus, global product manager, Molex. “They are a perfect fit for designers of wired and wireless tactical communication equipment, fixed communication tower links, rugged depot test equipment, exterior security systems and other harsh-environment applications.” Molex evaluated the changing needs of device designers when developing the new interconnect systems. Due to decreasing box sizes, many designers are now placing the transceiver cage on the board edge, where the outside cable assembly can be mated directly into the active device.
The new Optical Industrial Assemblies and Adapters (Receptacles) from Molex accommodates this design. With the incorporated X-, Y- and Z-axis float of the internal LC connector, the Molex interconnect system is flexible enough to accept multiple device options while maintaining connectivity integrity. Also, the Molex Optical Industrial Assemblies and Adapters (Receptacles) with metal housings are tightly sealed at both the panel cut-out and plug-to- receptacle interface, making them ruggedized for outdoor conditions.
Metal-body connector housings for the Optical Industrial Assemblies and Adapters (Receptacles) have been tested to GR-486: salt and fog exposure for extreme elements, which ensures they can withstand a variety of harsh environments. Also, sealed panel feed-through design versions have the retaining jam nut located inside or outside of the enclosure, which simplifies installation and provides tamper-proof and environmental protection. The assemblies and adapters (receptacles) can function in a temperature range from -40° C to +85° C, making them compatible with outdoor as well as indoor applications.
