Nichicon Corporation has expanded the UHW Series ratings. This radial leaded aluminum electrolytic capacitor, which has a small footprint, long life, and low impedance has applications in LED lighting and many types of power supplies. The current UHW Series, size range from a φ10×16L mm up to φ16×35.5L mm and has a life rating of 10,000 hours at 105°. The rated voltage range of 6.3 to 50V. The series is being expanded to include products up the φ18×40L mm and rated voltage range of 63 to 100V, while maintaining a 10,000 hour life at 105C. The UHW series was developed as a long-life, compact, low-impedance series. With the addition of 63 to 100V range, this series now offers long life, a small footprint, and low impedance throughout the entire low-voltage range.

The expanded product will be on display at CEATEC JAPAN 2015 from October 7 to 10 (Wed.-Sat.) at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan

Overview, Background of Development

Compared to other capacitors, aluminum electrolytic capacitors are compact and high capacitance. The market is constantly demanding products that are of even higher capacitance, with lower resistance, and longer life. As power supplies are becoming smaller and are required to offer higher outputs, demands are increasing for smaller, lower-impedance capacitors.

In response to these market needs, Nichicon has expanded the UHW Series ratings, making them smaller and lower impedance than the current long life UHE series.

Features

The UHW Series utilizes an optimized design and a new electrolytic solution. This allows Nichicon to offer this low impedance and long life product. The UHW Series has a smaller footprint and lower impedance than the current UHE series, and it is one of the smallest capacitors in its class in the industry. A 100V, 470μF model is approximately 30% smaller, while a 100V, φ10×16L model boasts approximately 60% lower impedance. These characteristics make the UHW series an ideal aluminum electrolytic capacitor to meet the needs for long life, compactness, and low impedance in LED lighting and power supplies
