TAIYO YUDEN Extends Lineup of Bluetooth® Smart Modules
2015-09-24 | ReturnTOKYO, September 24, 2015 - TAIYO YUDEN CO., LTD. announced today the launch of seven
Bluetooth®*1 Smart*2 module products in total as part of the EYSGCN series (9.6 x 12.9 x 2.0 mm), as well as the EYSGJN and EYAGJN series (both 5.1 x 11.3 x 1.3 mm).
These wireless communications modules, compatible with a wireless communication standard
called Bluetooth® v4.2 low energy (Bluetooth® Smart), are optimum products for many different small, thin devices including healthcare equipment, wearable devices and smartphone peripherals.
Due to the emergence of new functions such as "beacon" and their adoption in smartphones,
devices using Bluetooth® Smart technology are rapidly increasing in variety and number. However,
designing different wireless circuits for individual devices will result in increased development costs, while modularized circuits will deprive device developers of their freedom to apply only necessary functions to individual devices, thus preventing them from choosing optimum functions.
In response to diverse customer needs, TAIYO YUDEN will launch seven items in total, including small-type products and products with our original embedded software, and publish them on
a solution proposal page for the Bluetooth® Smart technology on our website. For proposing optimum products, the webpage also carries an optimum module selection chart that allows our customers to select modules suitable for their needs.
Production of these products will commence in Japan in September 2015 at a production rate
of one million units per month. The sample price for all items is 3,000 yen per unit.*3.
Technology Background
Bluetooth® v4.2 low energy (Bluetooth® Smart), which is part of the Bluetooth® standards, is a very
low-energy communications standard. Therefore, the technology has been increasingly adopted in
many different devices, including healthcare products such as bathroom scales and blood-pressure meters, as well as wearable devices such as activity trackers. In addition, the emergence of various services based on a function of Bluetooth® Smart known as "beacon" is resulting in a rapid increase in the number of Bluetooth® Smart-enabled devices.
On the other hand, an increasing variety of individual devices and customer needs has made it
necessary to offer an increased number of products in the Bluetooth® Smart module lineup, including different size and memory capacity options.
In response to this demand, TAIYO YUDEN will launch seven items, including the EYSGCN
series, which is equipped not only with an antenna but also with capacitors and inductors for the
DC-DC converter and a 32.768-kHz crystal oscillator; the EYSGJN series, which contains products
that are smaller than conventional ones; the EYAGJN series, which supports Bluetooth® Smart and ANT™*4 standards; and the EYSGCNAWY-1X and EYSGJNAWY-1X series, which have embedded our original software.
