Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.
President/Statutory Representative Director:
Tsuneo Murata

Overview

Murata has developed and released medical-grade monolithic ceramic capacitors for use in implanted medical devices such as cardiac pacemakers. They were developed based on high-reliability capacitor design technology, quality control and process management expertise gained by Murata in the development of markets requiring high reliability, such as the automotive market. Murata can also accommodate individual requests from customers.

Murata will exhibit the new products at CEATEC® JAPAN 2015, which will be held from October 7 (Wed.) to 10 (Sat.) at Makuhari Messe.

Background
Since medical devices such as cardiac pacemakers are designed to be implanted in the patient’s body, achieving greater compactness in order to reduce the burden on the patient (reducing invasiveness) is an important issue. Demand for greater compactness has continued to increase and in response, Murata has developed and released medical-grade monolithic ceramic capacitors suitable for use in implanted medical devices and featuring compact size, high capacitance and high reliability. By enabling high-density design, they will contribute to the creation of even more compact implanted medical devices.

Features
GCH series
A medical-grade series with a highly reliable design suitable for use in implanted medical devices.
Suitable for use in non-critical circuits.*1

GCR series
A series produced by individual screening of GCH series devices.
Suitable for use in critical circuits.*2

*1 Non-critical circuits:

Circuits in implanted medical devices that will not directly endanger the life of the patient should the functionality of the device be reduced or halted by failure of the circuit.

*2 Critical circuits:

Circuits in implanted medical devices that will directly and immediately endanger the life of the patient in case of failure.

Applications
Implanted medical devices (cardiac pacemakers, cochlear implants, insulin pumps, gastric electrostimulators, etc.)
