A photocoupler for 5 Mbps high speed communication with super low power consumption: TLP2310, TLP2710

2015-08-19 | Return

Toshiba has launched photocouplers “TLP2310” and “TLP2710” for 5 Mbps high speed communication which have reduced power consumption by 54 %*2 compared with the conventional product*1.

By mounting a highly reliable, high output power infrared LED in its input side, both TLP2310 and TLP2710 have reduced their threshold input current by about 38 % compared with the conventional product. And by mounting a light receiving IC that uses a Bi-CMOS process in its output side, each of them has reduced its supply current by about 90 % compared with the conventional product. By featuring the threshold input current at 1 mA (max), they support bufferless direct drive by a microcomputer, and help reduce power consumption and the cost of equipment systems.

These products also feature an operating temperature of 125 °C (max) and support power supply voltage between 2.7 V and 5.5 V, contributing to lowering the voltage of devices that use these products.

TLP2310 uses the 5pin SO6 package and TLP2710 uses the SO6L package; both are thin with a maximum height of 2.3 mm. TLP2310 features a clearance and creepage distance of minimum 5 mm and isolation voltage of 3.75 kVrms; TLP2710 features a clearance and creepage distance of 8 mm and isolation voltage of 5 kVrms, contributing to slimmer and smaller sets.
In addition, their compliance to overseas standards such as UL1577 and EN60747-5-5 has been certified, making them also suitable for applications requiring high insulation performance.

  • *1: Conventional product TLP2355 (5pin SO6 package)
  • *2: The input and output total of the conventional product: 14.8 mW; that of the new products: 6.78 mW
