Photocouplers for 100 kbps communication: TLP2703
2015-08-19 | ReturnTLP2703 uses the 2.3 mm thick SO6L thin package, contributing to slimmer sets. As this product features creepage distance of 8 mm and isolation voltage of 5 kVrms despite its thin package, it is also suitable for applications requiring high insulation performance. In insulated interfaces of FA equipment such as PLC and inverters, or home appliances and housing equipment such as air conditioners and smart meters, communications are at various transmission rates from several kbps to tens of Mbps depending on the amount of information. Among such communications, in the rate range from several kbps to 100 kbps represented by RS-232C, no suitable photocoupler has been available. Therefore, users have selected general purpose transistor couplers that are not satisfactory in terms of performance, or 1 Mbps class IC couplers which are more expensive than transistor couplers.
TLP2703 is configured with a high output power infrared LED chip and a light receiving chip of high speed photodarlington transistor, and features high current transfer ratio (IC/IF) of 900 % (min) at an input current of 0.5 mA. As the guaranteed propagation delay is 25 μs (max) at an input current of IF=1.6 mA, and 7 μs (max) at IF=12 mA, this product is suitable for insulated communication interfaces up to around 100 kbps such as RS-232C.
