TOKYO— Toshiba Corporation’s (TOKYO: 6502) Semiconductor & Storage Products Company today announced the launch of a 6TB[1] enterprise capacity hard disk drive (HDD) optimized for servers supporting cloud-based applications and analytic workloads. With a 3.5-inch form factor, the new product, MC04ACA600E, delivers 6TB of storage with a performance of 7,200 rotations per minute (rpm), suitable for workloads and storage requirements generated by cloud computing. Sample shipment will start from August.

The new 6TB model expands the line-up of the MC04ACA series, currently available in capacities of 2TB, 3TB, 4TB and 5TB. The MC04ACA series supports cloud use-case workloads of up to 180TB per year. It also features 6Gbit/s SATA interface speeds and Advanced Format sector technology, allowing compatibility with legacy applications and operating environments using aligned writes.

Notes
[1] Definition of capacity: Toshiba defines a megabyte (MB) as 1,000,000 bytes, a gigabyte (GB) as 1,000,000,000 bytes and a terabyte (TB) as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. A computer operating system, however, reports storage capacity using powers of 2 for the definition of 1GB = 230 = 1,073,741,824 bytes and therefore shows less storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings, software and operating system, such as Microsoft Operating System and/or pre-installed software applications, or media content. Actual formatted capacity may vary.
