Optimized for Use in Consumer and Industrial Applications, Output Current of 500 mA, NR1600 Series: LDO Voltage Regulator

With Soft-Start Time Adjustment Function and Power-Good Function, Versatile Product for Wide Range of Applications

Nisshinbo Micro Devices Inc. has launched a new LDO voltage regulator NR1600 series for use in consumer and industrial applications.
The NR1600 series is a standard LDO voltage regulator designed for a wide range of applications with a maximum input voltage of 5.5 V (rating: 6.5 V) and an output current of 500 mA. This product provides two types of output voltage setting: one is an adjustable output voltage type which can set an output voltage externally between 1.0 V and 4.8 V, and the other is an internally fixed output voltage type between 1.0 V and 3.6 V.

This product features a "soft-start time adjustment function" which enables adjustment of the output voltage slope during the start-up period with an external capacitor and a "power-good function" which monitors the output voltage and sends a signal.

The "soft-start time adjustment function" helps to suppress inrush current during the start-up period of power supplies and simplify the design of startup sequences.
The "power-good function" monitors that the product outputs a voltage properly and generates power-good signals. For example, the operating status of the product can be monitored by inputting the signal to an MCU; and also, inputting the signal to an enable terminal of other power management products makes it easy to design startup sequences.
By utilizing these functions, this product helps reduce the design workload of power supplies, especially for equipment incorporating LSIs that require its multiple power supplies to be turned on in a specified order, such as FPGAs.

Three types of packages are available for this product: a small package, DFN1212-6-GK (1.2 x 1.2 x 0.4 mm), an easy-to-mount package, SOT-23-6-DD (2.9 x 2.8 x 1.1 mm) *, and a high heat dissipation package, HSOP-8-AC (5.2 x 4.4. x 1.45 mm) *. You can choose the most suitable package for your application in any equipment.
* SOT-23-6-DD and HSOP-8-AC are currently under development and will be available in the summer of 2023.

This is the first product to adopt a 0.18 µm wafer process in our power management products. With fine processing, this product has realized the addition of the soft-start time adjustment function and the power-good function in the same chip size as our conventional products. We will continue to develop new products to meet customer needs by adopting this process to a variety of products including power management ICs and achieving high value-added products.

In addition, three types of packages including a small and a high heat dissipation package can be used in a wide range of applications.

2. Easy Power Supply Design at Startup Thanks to Soft-start Time Adjustment Function
Depending on the device used, it may have restrictions on the voltage slope during the startup period of power supplies or may require countermeasures against malfunctions caused by an inrush current due to large capacitance in the subsequent circuit. This product can easily solve the above problems because the output voltage ramp can be adjusted with an external capacitor.
