New Products: RM516 / RM517 Series, Step-down VFM Control DC/DC Modules with Built-in Inductor, Optimized for Use in Industrial and Consumer Applications

- No Complex Wiring Required, Enabling Compact Board Design with Ease -

Nisshinbo Micro Devices Inc. has launched the RM516/RM517 series, step-down VFM (Variable Frequency Modulation) control DC/DC Modules with a built-in inductor which are optimized for use in industrial and consumer applications.

These days, in accordance with the miniaturization of products, it is getting more difficult to place electronic components on a limited mounting area. Using a DC/DC converter in such a situation requires designers to pay attention to how to lay out wiring. Additionally, it is possible that they cannot construct a recommended pattern due to the limitation in mounting area.

The RM516/RM517 series are modules that contain the maximum output current of 100 mA/300 mA step-down DC/DC switching regulators respectively, and a built-in inductor each. These products adopt a small and thin QFN2430-8 package with the size of 2.4 x 3.0 x 0.8 (mm). They require only two external capacitors, which removes the necessity of complex wiring and enables designing a compact board with ease.

The output voltage range is from 0.3 V to 1.2 V (settable in 0.1 V step). The input voltage range is from 1.8 V to 5.5 V, and the current consumption at no load is 0.3 µA (typ.). These products contribute to the construction of IoT devices and long battery life by achieving low operating voltage, which is expected to continue to advance in the future, with ultra-low consumption. The RM516 series has the output current of 100 mA*1 and the RM517 series has that of 300 mA①.

Since ICs and inductors contained in the RM516/RM517 series are manufactured at Nisshinbo Group&lqquot&s plants and these products are scheduled to be applicable for our Product Longevity Program maintaining state of supply for 10 years, they can be used for a long time without concern.

① : The output current is a reference value under specified conditions. It depends on conditions and external components.

Features

1. Integration of a DC/DC Converter IC and an Inductor into a Module

The RM516/RM517 series achieve the package height of 0.8 (mm) by placing a thin inductor beside an IC, enabling board mounting with height restrictions. The built-in inductor simplifies board design by just placing input and output capacitors arbitrarily near the product. Therefore, these products contribute to solving customers&lqquot& problems by reducing the time for selecting an inductor and concern on the end of life of the products.

2. Ultra-low Current Consumption Thanks to VFM Control

The RM516/RM517 series contribute to long battery life and small battery size by reducing total power consumption through reduction of invalid power in standby mode period by VFM control.
