New Product NC2600 Series, Step-down DC/DC Switching Regulator

Nisshinbo Micro Devices Inc. has launched the NC2600 Series, a synchronous rectification and a maximum output current of 2A step-down DC/DC switching regulator with a PWM/PFM auto switching mode function.
Recently, as products have been miniaturized, the limitation of the board area where electronic components can be mounted has become increasingly severe. In many cases, the area available for power management ICs has also been limited. Furthermore, in battery-powered applications, power management ICs are increasingly required to be highly efficient to prolong the life of batteries.
The NC2600 series is a synchronous step-down DC/DC switching regulator with 4 MHz switching frequency. Two small packages are available: the WLCSP-8-P11, a small 1.62 x 0.98 x 0.4 (mm) package, and the DFN2020-8-GT (under development), a 2.0 x 2.0 x 0.6 (mm) surface-mount type for easy mounting. Since this product is designed to operate even with peripheral components with small external dimensions, power management components including peripheral components can be placed in a small footprint area.
The NC2600 series has an input voltage range of 2.3 V to 5.5 V and a maximum rating of 6.5 V. The output voltage is available in two types: a fixed voltage type where the output voltage is set internally in the IC, and a voltage adjustable type where the output voltage is set by external resistors.
The NC2600 series supports a maximum output current of 2 A. In addition, it is equipped with a function that automatically switches between PFM (Pulse Frequency Modulation) mode and PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) mode depending on the output current to enable efficient voltage conversion at light load. This function enables the product to achieve both responses to heavy load and high efficiency at light load.
In addition, since this product has a power good function and a variable soft-start time function, external components for sequence control of power supply are not required when driving devices that require multiple voltages, and sequence control can be easily realized by using this product.

1. Small Footprint Solutions
While the NC2600 series supports a maximum current of 2 A, since it uses a small package of WLCSP-8-P11 (1.62 x 0.98 mm) and is also designed to operate even with peripheral components with small external dimensions, power management components including peripheral components can be placed in a small footprint area.
2. PWM/PFM Auto Switching Mode
Since the NC2600 series has a PWM/PFM auto switching mode function that automatically switches between PWM mode and PFM mode depending on the output current, it achieves high efficiency at both light and heavy load. (This function is enabled when a "L" signal is input to the MODE pin.)
