Description

Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation (AKM) has released the AK7455, a magnetic rotation angle sensor IC that supports off-axis configurations, where the sensor is not located on the rotation axis of the magnet.

The AK7455's specific calibration function enables high accuracy angle detection of ±0.1º (typ.) in both shaft-end and off-axis configurations.

Enabling change of the bandwidth setting of the angle calculation circuit, the AK7455 has achieved improved responsiveness during motor acceleration and deceleration.

Features

● Supports off-axis configuration

- In addition to shaft-end configuration, off-axis configuration is also available, where ICs are placed next to the two-pole magnetized magnets, allowing for greater flexibility in designing.

- Off-axis arrangement allows for thinner dimensions. In addition, by configuring a motor system of the hollow structure type, the space can be saved through wiring in the hollow.

● Angle error calibration function

- The AK7455 has 1st to 4th order calibration parameters. By writing those parameters to an internal EEPROM, an angle accuracy of ±0.1º (typ.) can be achieved in both shaft-end and off-axis configurations.

● Improves responsiveness to motor acceleration/deceleration

- By allowing the setting of the cutoff frequency of the LPF that is installed in the angle calculation circuit inside of the IC to a wide bandwidth, the AK7455 has improved the responsiveness to motor acceleration and deceleration and has enabled smooth motor control.

Applications

● Motor control applications

- Industrial robots and electric actuators
- Machine tools, textile machinery, and industrial sewing machines
- Stepping motors and DC brushless motors
