Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation (AKM) has started sample distribution of the coreless current sensor IC CQ36 series uniquely suited to robotics.

The CQ36 series has a built-in Δ-Σ (Delta-Sigma) modulator that can replace "a shunt resistor and isolated ADC" in a single package.

It is highly compatible with robots and AC servo amplifiers while contributing to system miniaturization. It is highly compatible with robots and AC servo amplifiers while contributing to system miniaturization.

This series will be exhibited at PCIM Europe 2024 in Nuremberg, Germany from the 11th to the 13th of June.

Low heat generation with only 0.3 mΩ primary conductor that minimizes system size for high-current applications

AKM has developed a unique package to achieve a low primary conductor resistance of 0.3mΩ.

Compared to available shunt resistors and similar products on the market, the CQ36 series' low heat generation--even in continuous operation--enables a small PCB area.

"A shunt resistor + isolated ADC" in a single package contribute to system miniaturization by reducing the number of parts

By integrating the current sensor and Delta-Sigma modulator into a single package, the CQ36 series significantly reduces the number of components needed compared to a "shunt resistor + insulated ADC" solution, making it possible to downsize the system.

Furthermore, no isolated power supply on the primary side is required.

High resolution enables precise torque control required for robots

The CQ36 series utilizes the high sensitivity characteristics of compound Hall elements to achieve a high resolution which is important for the precise torque control of robots.
