NICHICON Launches UBH Series of Chip-Type Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors Guaranteed at 150°C with Low ESR and the Longest Life in the Industry

In recent years, automotive onboard electronics such as ECUs* surrounding the engine drive system have been increasingly mounted near the engine compartment, necessitating that their aluminum electrolytic capacitor components support even higher temperatures. NICHICON CORPORATION has launched the UBH series of chip-type aluminum electrolytic capacitors guaranteed for 2,000 hours at 150°C (φ8: 1,500 hours) to meet this demand for extreme heat resistance.

NICHICON will exhibit the series at TECHNO-FRONTIER 2021’s 36th Power System Japan Expo.

Overview and Development Background

Previously, NICHICON had launched the UBC series (guaranteed operation for 1,000 hours at 150°C). The new UBH series (1,000 to 2,000 hours at 150°C) has higher capacitance and longer life while offering low ESR.

The new products are expected to contribute to reduced mounting space,higher performance, and longer life in a variety of applications in extremely hightemperature environments that our current lineup is unable to withstand.

Features

In addition to improvements in materials and the manufacturing process, the new products achieve a rated operating temperature of 150°C and low ESR from the use of a low-evaporation, low-resistance electrolyte. The products have the longest rated life of 1,500 hours for capacitors with 8mm diameters and 2,000 hours for 10mm diameter. Guaranteed ESR at low temperatures increases performance and lengthens the life of devices. Using UBH series capacitors can contribute to reduction in the number of capacitors and miniaturization of devices since they offer up to 1.5 times the capacitance of the existing 150°C-rated UBC series.
