FN3840 - EMC-FILTER FOR REGENERATIVE APPLICATIONS

2021-05-05 | Return
As the internationally leading company in the field of electromagnetic compatibility, we are pleased to announce the release of a new EMC-filter series: FN3840

Designed for regenerative applications

In Active Infeed Converter (AIC) or Active Front End (AFE) applications, energy is fed back to the power grid. This saves energy cost in bigger factories or reduces losses / heat in converters. When the semiconductors of the converters are switching directly towards the mains power network, they create a high voltage and current ripple. The usage of an LCL-filter like FN6840 can reduce this effect and increase power quality. If ripple and power quality are within limits, compliance to EMC regulations at frequencies above 150kHz need to be considered. Not every EMC-filter can be connected in-line with an LCL-filter. The inductive components of the LCL-filter can resonate with the capacitors of the EMC-filter and vice versa. To overcome those effects and to avoid damage of the drive, a careful design of the EMC-filter circuit is mandatory.

Compatible to FN6840 LCL filter

The new FN3840 has been tested carefully and it works well together with the FN6840 LCL-filter.

Special feature

Temperature switch To facilitate temperature monitoring in the installation, the FN3840 comes with a temperature switch installed. The temperature in the EMC-filter is monitored and the switch will open at critical temperatures of 180°C (or 150°C for busbar versions). This provides an extra safety layer for machine planners. In the event of an open temperature switch the active infeed converter can react and reduce or switch off power.
