Abracon Releases Power-Optimized AX3 ClearClock™ Oscillators with Ultra-Low Jitter of 80fs

Abracon announces availability of the AX3 ClearClock™ series of high performance, ultra-compact oscillators available in a smallest-in-class 3.2 x 2.5 mm package size. Delivering breakthrough jitter performance of 80fs RMS, this XO is ideal for high data rate applications, such as 10G/40G/100G Ethernet, Fibre Channel, HD-SDI/3G HD-SDI broadcast video, optical transport, telecom, basestations (BTS) and PCI Express up to Gen 6 and beyond. Supporting frequencies up to 200MHz, the AX3 technology alleviates the tradeoff between compact design and high data rate requirements.

“The need to develop compact solutions within high performance applications, such as optical modules, small video cameras and active cables, while also supporting the next generation of data rates can be a challenge when using existing traditional oscillators,” said Juan Conchas, director of marketing with Abracon. “The AX3 series resolves that dilemma by providing the best performance and size tradeoff in its class.”

Typically consuming 30mW of power at the lowest operating voltage of 1.8V, the AX3 delivers industry-leading low power consumption for a low noise differential XO. The AX3 device’s simplified architecture avoids phase locked loop (PLL) based multiplication, reducing overall power consumption far below other high-performance XO alternatives. Read our new white paper to learn more about how the AX3 technology outperforms the competition and provides the ideal convergence of small size and superior jitter performance.

Enabled by the simplified approach, the oscillator supports full differential output logic types of LVDS, HCSL and LVPECL while delivering clean and spurious-free phase noise performance. Standard options support +/-25ppm temperature stability over a -40°C to 85°C ambient temperature range as well as OE functionality with active high or active low combinations.
