Description

Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation, (AKM), has newly added semiconductor magneto resistance elements (SMRE) that support the widely used gear wheel modules at m*= 0.3 / 0.5 in Europe, for encoders of machine tools.

AKM’s SMRE’s have good temperature characteristics with low variability among individual devices. More than 20-bit rotation angle accuracy can be achieved via angle detection through interpolation.

In addition, AKM has an extensive lineup of m = 0.2 / 0.4 / 0.8 corresponding products adopted by major machine tool manufacturers.
*Module (m) is the standard value representing the size of a gear. It is the ratio of the reference diameter, (d) of the gear divided by the number of teeth, (z). m = d/z



● Corresponding to gears widely used in Europe
m = 0.3 / 0.5 are gear modules mainly used in Europe.

● A magnetic encoder with 20-bit or more resolution can be achieved
An SMRE detects the change in the magnetic flux density generated between magnetic gears and the bias magnet. By interpolating the analog signal electrically, more than 20 bits accuracy of rotation detection can be achieved. This can be done even if it is a magnetic encoder, since the detection signal is a highly accurate sine or cosine wave. The analog signal has one cycle per tooth.

● Excellent Environment Resistance Solution
Because the SMRE detects a magnetic field, grit, dust, oil, etc. does not affect the signal, with excellent environmental resistance. An SMRE has extremely good temperature characteristics with low variability among individual devices, enabling accurate rotation detection.
