Broadcom Ships World’s Fastest NVMe/SAS/SATA RAID Solutions to Server and External Storage OEMs
2017-04-18 | ReturnThe addition of the 9400-series NVMe/SAS/SATA Tri-Mode SERDES MegaRAID controllers to the Broadcom storage portfolio enables customers to experience new levels of read and write performance. With over 1.7M IOPS, the 9400-series RAID controllers provide the most performance and robust data protection for all intensive cloud scaling, web services, business intelligence and OLTP applications used within traditional and hyper-converged server platforms. With industry-leading power consumption starting at just 10 watts, the 9400-series is the most efficient RAID controller card in its class and provides the necessary power savings for any data center environment.
As the market leader in NVMe/SAS/SATA Tri-mode SERDES storage technology, Broadcom is enabling next generation data centers to take full advantage of NAND and HDD-based storage performance. Combined with providing the industry’s 6th generation PCIe switching products, NVMe silicon solutions and robust software portfolios, Broadcom is helping its customers lead the data center transformation.
The new Broadcom 9400® series dual-core MegaRAID controller family is built for high IOPS and data-intensive analysis applications, all-flash-based storage systems, hybrid SSD and HDD solutions, and meets or exceeds performance requirements with these features:
1. Up to 16 internal or 16 external or internal NVMe/SAS/SATA ports with power consumption at less than 1.1W per port
2. Support of up to x8 PCIe lanes at transfer rate up to 8.0 GT/s per lane
3. Designed to support 8GB of cache based memory
4. Built upon PCI Express 3.0
5 12Gb/s HDD/SSD data transfer rates
6. High-speed DDR4 memory interface, improving NVMe hardware RAID system performance
7. Certified by Broadcom to support up to 24 NVMe, 1024 SSDs or 1024 HDDs
8. Certified Broadcom OS Support for Microsoft Windows, VMware, Linux (SuSE, Red Hat), and FreeBSD
“Building on Broadcom’s industry leading data center storage technology, 6th generation PCIe switches, and robust NVMe silicon and software solutions, we are pleased to bring the industry's first purpose-built high IOPS performance NVMe/SAS/SATA Tri-Mode RAID controller solutions into our family of MegaRAID storage controllers," said Jas Tremblay, vice president and general manager, Data Center Solutions Group, Broadcom. "With over 65 OEM platforms soon to be offering the Broadcom 9400 series to their most demanding next-generation server and scale-out storage customers, Broadcom continues to lead the industry delivering unmatched data protection, performance and scalability for all next-generation data centers.”
“Growth in data consumption is driving a transformation within client on how they utilize IT to improve business results. Lenovo is working with Broadcom to address continued need for higher performance systems to assist in improved application performance and agility. Lenovo is developing the highest level performing solutions that leverage new NVMe-based drives or all-flash drive arrays, to address our customers’ workload needs,” said Kamran Amini, general manager, Server and Storage Business Units, at Lenovo. “By leveraging Broadcom’s new 9400 family controllers in Lenovo’s next-generation servers, our customers will enjoy servers that have flexible choices in drive technology, with improved data rates and robust data protection. We are excited to be partnering with Broadcom on the next generation of server and storage technologies.”
“Storage requirements continue to drive the need for both high IOPS for data centers deploying flash solutions as well as high-capacity storage systems that run HDDs,” said Jeff Janukowicz, research vice president for Solid State Drives and Enabling Technologies at IDC. “By combining NVMe with SAS and SATA capabilities into its latest RAID solutions, Broadcom has created a compelling solution that will enable enterprise storage vendors to meet the demands of this diverse and growing storage market.”
OEM volume shipments are available today for the new Tri-Mode family of high performance12Gb/s NVMe/SAS/SATA MegaRAID solutions.
The new 9400 series of MegaRAID models include:
1. MegaRAID NVMe/SAS/SATA 9460-16i 16-Port Int., PCIe 3.0, 4GB
2. MegaRAID NVMe/SAS/SATA 9460-8i 8-Port Int., PCIe 3.0, 2GB
